Discover the Benefits of Environmental Education at Sly Park
The value of Environmental Education is gaining well-deserved recognition, and for good reason. At Sly Park, we provide students with a unique opportunity to disconnect from screens and reconnect with nature. Whether it's building self-confidence, overcoming challenges, or forming lasting social bonds, our programs offer more than just education—they offer transformation.
Our Primary Program: 4- or 5-Day Residential Experience
Sly Park’s main offering is our 4- or 5-day Residential Environmental Education Experience, designed specifically for 5th and 6th grade students. Teachers or site coordinators collaborate with our team to schedule, register, and prepare for their visit. Once here, students stay in cozy cabins alongside dedicated leaders who ensure a calm, safe, and supportive environment.
Each day includes two immersive, 3-hour educational hikes. Students explore the surrounding campus and nearby National Forest, engaging in hands-on learning about local ecosystems. On-site classes complement trail learning in spaces such as our Discovery Lab, Astronomy Center, and Ecology Center. See our Activity Descriptions page to find out more.
A highlight of the week is the unforgettable night walk—an evening adventure where students venture into the forest without flashlights, using only their senses and the natural light around them. This powerful experience fosters trust, courage, and a deeper connection with the natural world.
It’s a week that blends adventure, inquiry, and personal growth.
Day Field Trips: A Perfect Intro to Outdoor Learning
For schools unable to commit to a full week, Sly Park also offers single-day environmental education field trips for students in grades 1–12. Our 4- and 6-hour options are customized to meet the specific goals of each group, with the option to include lunch. Trip coordinators work directly with our staff to design a memorable day that fits their students’ needs.
