Letter from the Director
Welcome to Sly Park!
For 55 years, Sly Park has provided outdoor education to students in the greater Sacramento area. Our goal is to provide students with a world-class, one-in-a-lifetime outdoor education experience, balancing engaging academic rigor with fun physical activities.
As a program operated by the Sacramento County Office of Education, the Sly Park Outdoor Education Center operates as a school, including all of the same student safety protocols and procedures.
Campus security features include a school-wide camera system, alarms on each of the cabin doors, a school-wide mass communication system, and thoroughly tested fire detection systems. Of course, all chaperones are fingerprinted and all adults are required to check in at the school office for visitor badges. Additionally, Sly Park employs a robust 2-way radio system and satellite phones in remote areas.
Sly Park is unique, among all other outdoor education programs, in that each of our 7 teachers hold California science teaching credentials. Additionally, the Director must possess a California Administrative Services Credential.
As a residential program, we are very proud of all of our facilities, including the student cabins. In addition to our 8 cabins, Sly Park offers accommodations for teachers, a full-service dining hall, Sly Park teacher classrooms, a gymnasium, a large maintenance warehouse, an administrative office, and an amphitheater. Of course, this is all in addition to the miles of trails and all that nature has to offer.
Sly Park maintains strict adult to student ratios for both chaperones and teachers. On arrival days, we spend significant amounts of time orienting all adults on their respective roles. Every adult on the Sly Park campus is here to support the student experience.
We’re glad you have found our website. Please take time to browse through an amazing array of resources. We strive to provide each of our core groups - parent/student, visiting teachers, and chaperones - with as much information as possible in advance of a stay at Sly Park.
Again, our goal is to provide students with a world-class, one-in-a-lifetime outdoor education experience. This website is part of that commitment.
Sincerely,
Jeremy Meyers
Director
