Journey Through Time: Sly Park's Immersive 4th Grade

Step back in time and embark on an unforgettable adventure at Sly Park Environmental Education Center. Our experiential 4th Grade California History program brings the Golden State’s rich heritage to life, captivating young minds and igniting a passion for history.

Native American Heritage Comes Alive

Imagine your students stepping into an authentic Cedar Bark House, feeling the textures and smelling the earthy scents of traditional Native American dwellings. As they enter our state-of-the-art Planetarium, they'll be transported to a world of ancient wisdom, where Native American storytelling connects the past to the stars above.
In our Native American Interpretive Center, students will discover the vibrant cultures that thrived in California long before European settlement.

Gold Rush Adventures Ignite the Thrill of Discovery

The excitement of the California Gold Rush comes to life as students try their hand at gold panning in the crystal-clear waters of Park Creek. They'll feel the thrill of discovery as they sift through the sand, just like the prospectors of old.
Nearby, they'll experience the challenging work of early settlers by grinding rocks, gaining a tangible understanding of 19th-century life in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Connect with History and the Landscape

Students can follow in the footsteps of brave pioneers who shaped California’s destiny during a hike along the historic Park Creek and Mormon Emigrant trails. These guided walks offer a unique opportunity to connect with the landscape and imagine the journeys of those who came before, from Native Americans to Gold Rush settlers.
