Connie

Connie has been a beloved member of the Sly Park team for over 26 years, serving as Head Cook and bringing warmth and care to every meal. Outside of work, Connie’s true joy comes from her seven adorable grandchildren, who light up her life and keep her laughing. She has a deep love for flowers, gardening, and growing houseplants, spending spring and summer surrounded by her vibrant blooms and the flutter of hummingbirds. Evenings in her backyard transform into a magical solar garden, complete with colorful solar flowers, fairy lights, and whimsical gnomes. Connie also enjoys off-roading adventures with her family in the mountains, discovering scenic spots for picnics, and cherishing quiet moments with her two gorgeous Maine Coon cats.

Kat

Katherine “Kat” Keates has been part of the Sly Park Environmental Education Center family for nearly four years, bringing warmth and care to the kitchen as she prepares hearty breakfasts and lunches for Sly Park guests. She loves her role and especially enjoys interacting with the students who visit the center. Outside the kitchen, Kat finds that cooking and baking, gardening, camping, spending time around horses, and being with good friends and family all fill her heart to the fullest. Her strong connection to nature is reflected in her nature name, Katerpillar—be sure to ask her about the tattoo!

Matt

Hi! My name is Matt. I enjoy spending my free time hiking, backpacking, camping, flying drones, and playing video games. I am also currentlly pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering.

I grew up hunting and fishing in Tennessee, which sparked my connection to the natural world at an early age. Living just 45 minutes from the Great Smoky Mountains further deepened that bond, as I spent many days off exploring the mountains and trails.

My nature name is Smoky, inspired by the Great Smoky Mountains where my hiking and outdoor journey began.

I started here in December 2024.

A hard worker who naturally steps up to support and unite her team, Ryanne isn’t afraid to try new ideas and thrives on bringing organization to the lively, fast-paced environment of serving more than 200 people three meals a day.

Beyond the kitchen, Ryanne is a full-time employee, full-time parent, and is actively pursuing further education—fitting in study time and classes whenever she can. When she’s not at work or hitting the books, you can often find her walking the trails near Sly Park with her dog, enjoying a well-earned moment outdoors. Her drive, balance, and positive spirit make her an invaluable part of the Sly Park community.
