Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Need more help?

We want you to be as prepared as you can be before you arrive.

It can be overwhelming to bring an entire class or grade to Sly Park. We know you have loads of emails, phone calls, meetings to do IN ADDITION to teaching!

Please check out all of our website pages, watch the videos, read the FAQs, and if you still have questions, contact our office Tuesday-Thursday.

We look forward to meeting you or seeing you AGAIN!!!

Where do the visiting teachers sleep?

Teachers sleep in a dormitory-style cabin connected to the office that is named Mountain Misery. Mountain Misery has a large refrigerator and space for any snacks you may have. Bathrooms and showers are inside!!
We do our best to offer single-occupancy rooms to teachers. However, depending upon the number of teachers attending, you may be asked to room with a teacher from your school.

Do I need to be with my students at all times?

Sly Park Teachers all hold current California-Credentials and are able to hold classes without the presence of a teacher. We encourage you to participate as much as you can. We also honor and acknowledge the sheer amount of work that goes into managing a group at Sly Park and try to keep your assigned duties to a minimum.

Who does the discipline at Sly Park?

As the students are YOUR students, you will be responsible for discipline. Cabin Leaders are instructed NOT TO DISCIPLINE, but rather to alert you to behaviors that need correcting. Sly Park staff (teachers, program specialist, and director) are available to assist you in the discipline process.
