Sly Park Virtual Learning
Our mission is to engage students, support science instruction and teach the importance of our role in being stewards of the environment.
With COVID protocols, many students are not able to attend an outdoor science camp and with the extreme wildfire concerns, Environmental Science is even more relevant than ever before. Although students cannot currently come to our campus, our Virtual Learning lessons allow a virtual field trip to be delivered to you.
All lessons are designed to address not only the NGSS standards (Disciplinary Core Ideas, Science and Engineering Practices, and Crosscutting Concepts) but also California’s Environmental Principles and Concepts. Lessons will be supported with a Science 5E Instructional model with live instruction, hyper-docs, videos, and digital resources. There will also be short self-guided activities for students to complete between lessons known as Home Investigations.
Distance Learning Lessons
Sly Park Teachers will provide classrooms with a daily NGSS/Environmental Literacy Science lesson. The lessons will range from 45-50 minutes and support the current unit of study that classroom teacher is covering. The presentations can be an extension to the teacher’s classroom lesson or a separate lesson.
All materials are designed by the Sly Park credentialed teachers and meet 3rd-8th grade standards. Schools with several classes are eligible for a structured discount. See table below for units and pricing for each unit.
Number of classrooms by school | 1-3 | 4-6 | 7+ |
---|---|---|---|
Matter Movement, Solar/Lunar, Forest Ecology, and Earth Spheres 5 lessons in each unit (price per class) | $575 | $525 | $475 |
Virtual Outdoor Education
During this 5-day experience students learn how to be citizen scientists, capable of tapping into their natural scientist skills to better understand, take care of and advocate for their local environment. Daily lessons of 1.5 hours to 2 hours include synchronous and asynchronous components designed and sequenced to support students' academic, social and emotional learning.
